April 30, 2009 by Finding Happiness · Leave a Comment

Many people are having a tough time these days. The economy is hurting and now we're hearing about the swine flu epidemic. It can really get you down. That's why I'm thrilled to have Gini Graham Scott , Ph.D., author of over 50 books, including her new one, Want It, See It, Get It! as my guest. She gives an overview of her 12 principles of happiness no matter what's going on. You Can Be Happy, Even in Difficult Times by Gini Graham Scott , Ph.D. As each day brings more and more ba

His Holiness the Dalai Lama CAMBRIDGE, Mass: Hands reached for him, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama reached back. With a broad smile, he exited a news conference Wednesday clasping the fingers of anyone in reach, offering his blessing, a laugh, and a bit of hope from a leader five decades in exile. Hope was a theme of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's remarks: about the Obama administration, about the prospects for change within the Chinese government and about his o

Publishers Weekly

“Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, the Tibetan Buddhist master of mind-over-matter and co-author of the best-selling The Joy of Living…recommends Buddhism’s cheerful, non-alarmist, big-picture approach to life’s obstacles as a prescription for contemporary troubles.”

“Rinpoche ’s investigations into the science of happiness are woven into an accessible introduction to Buddhism.”

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Sense and Sensitivity
For those of you who are looking to mindfulness as a way of life, or just trying to temper your routine with calm, I can’t recommend “Joyful Wisdom” enough. This is Eric Swanson’s second book with Mingyur Rinpoche, and he has a truly uncanny talent for translating etheral concepts into immediate tools for living. Also, in this economy, I don’t know anyone who couldn’t use an anodyne for the stress that afflicts us all. Bravo, Rinpoche and Swanson, and thanks for helping me breathe.

5 Stars the real deal
I just finished this wonderful book, and I am still filled with the warm glow of wisdom from this true Buddhist master. Amazingly, Rinpoche has been able to explain in scientific terms the pathways to human joy, its causes and effects. I would recommend “Joyful Wisdom” to anyone interested in clear, practical Buddhist teaching, or really anyone that would like to cast off depression, anger, and other feelings that stop us all from moving forward and embracing life. This is a truly magical book which will be read and reread for generations.

Is it really almost May?

April 29, 2009 by Finding Happiness · Leave a Comment

Where oh where does the time go? I can’t believe that 2009 is almost officially 25% gone. I swear that time goes faster as you get older. Maybe that’s life’s way of reminding you to actually LIVE your life, while you can. I have a couple of things this morning before heading off to work. As I mentioned yesterday, the Hate Crimes bill is expected to go before the full House of Representatives for debate and a vote today. News also became public that Sen. Ted Kennedy introduced similar l

George Osborne, psychologist

pj laments that he is one of the few people left who cannot diagnose mental illness in others without the relevant expertise. Now, according to Guido , diagnosing mental health issues is within the remit of the shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. Either George Osborne is an exceptionally talented politician with the appropriate diagnostic skills in psychology or a cunt who thinks mental health is an acceptable smear to use when attacking ones political opponents.
